SR Township encourages applications for housing rehab
Slippery Rock Township will put out bids for road maintenance on Pink and McCandless roads this year.
The township supervisors reviewed the allotted use of its Community Development Block Grant money at a Monday meeting and chose to allocate the approximately $100,000 received this year to improving the two roads. They also considered funding improvements to Cemetery Road, which did not qualify for use of the funding.
Supervisor chair Paul Dickey said the cost and the specific improvements to be made have not yet been decided on.
“The cost won't be determined until the bids come out,” he said. “It depends on what the engineer thinks we can do for the estimated amount of money we have.”
The supervisors also have CDBG money that can be used for housing rehabilitation, but the township didn't receive any applications through the county housing authority. The supervisors encouraged township residents to apply for housing rehabilitation.
“I have seen some amazing things accomplished for individual homes,” said supervisor John Hines. The township is also updating its hazardous mitigation plan, which deals with emergencies like oil spills or gas leaks.
Butler County is updating its hazardous mitigation plan, according to Hines. He said he is attending a meeting in August relating to the redrawing of hazardous mitigation plans, and Slippery Rock Township may adopt Butler County's if the supervisors choose.
