Ronald Laverne Nye
Ronald Laverne Nye, 89, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, after a brief illness.
Ron was born July 11, 1932, in Ellwood City, to Paul G. Nye and Blanche M. Kocher Nye.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951, where he was captain of the gymnastics team and won numerous medals. He had many talents, including figure skating, playing guitar and piano, and singing.He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.He was a member of the Christian vocal duo, “The Sacratones,” along with his former wife, having performed at many Western Pennsylvania churches and revival meetings, and had recorded two albums.He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors, and was happiest when he was hard at work.He was the owner of Nye Tree Service for over 60 years, and had many loyal customers throughout the Western Pennsylvania area. He especially loved working in Forest County and the Cook Forest area.Survivors include his three children, David P. Nye of Slippery Rock, Laurie L. (Robert) Hawkins of Slippery Rock and Jacqueline A. Borum of Eustis, Fla.; two granddaughters, Ashley (Jarrod) Crawford and Candice Hawkins, all of Butler; five great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gerald P. Nye and Robert E. Nye; and his sister-in-law, Norma Jean Nye.NYE — Services for Ronald Laverne Nye, who died Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, will be held privately Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery in Ellwood City, with the Rev. Jarrod Crawford officiating.Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
