Police: Mich. man nabbed with THC vape cartridges

Butler police seized 181 boxes containing THC vapor cartridges in a Michigan man's car following a traffic stop Wednesday.

A Michigan man landed behind bars after a traffic stop Wednesday evening yielded 181 THC vape cartridges, Butler police said.

Darrow G. Medrano II, 37, of Lansing is facing a felony drug charge in the arrest in the city's Island neighborhood. He is in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

Police said an officer on patrol around 5:20 p.m. on West Wayne Street spotted a car with Michigan license plates. The driver failed to use his signals while making two turns.

The officer, who stopped the car on the 300 block of Virginia Avenue, reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle. Medrano was asked to step out of the car.

“He admitted that there were THC vape cartridges inside a box in the rear hatch compartment,” according to police Sgt. Dave Villotti's affidavit.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the intoxicating ingredient in marijuana, which is illegal for recreational use in Pennsylvania.Police said they looked in the compartment and found the 181 cartridges “of varying potencies and flavors.” Among the flavors were tangerine, apple jack and mojito.Additionally, police turned up a digital scale in the car's center console, documents said.District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Medrano on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.He also was cited for failing to use his turn signal.
