Family homeless after fire in Summit Township
A family is left homeless after a fire Saturday evening on Chicora Road in Summit Township.
The fire was reported at 2:53 p.m. at 262 Chicora Road, according to county emergency services, and firefighters are still at the scene checking for hot spots.
Chief Tim Gold of the Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department said there was heavy smoke coming from the basement when firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, he said.
The homeowner said she and her son were not at home at the time of the fire. Another son was working at a garage on the property and saw the flames and got the dog out. A family cat is still missing.
The homeowner said her son also attempted to fight the blaze with a fire extinguisher.
The American Red Cross has been called. The homeowner said she did have insurance.
Also responding to the scene were the Butler Fire District and Chicora, East Butler and Herman fire departments and the East Butler Ambulance Service.
Traffic along Route Chicora Road is still being restricted.
