Campground wraps up summer season in style
MERCER TWP — Labor Day is the traditional end of summer for most people, and one local campground helped families send off the season in style with a series of weekend activities, tournaments and events.
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp at Kozy Rest catered to kids and parents alike this past weekend with a fun-filled schedule of laser tag, a bubble-blowing DJ, tie-dye and corn hole tournaments.
And of course, what weekend camping trip would be complete without plenty of spots in the schedule to sit around a bonfire.“You can still come and relax, but we have activities,” campground owner Greg Quigley said, adding that he aimed to include events for parents and kids to enjoy together.DJ Bubble Lady came to the campground over the weekend, bringing with her a lot of excitement as kids danced en masse in machine-produced bubbles. Gracie Gaillot, 4, of Freeport brought home the first-place prize and said her family enjoyed all the weekend activities.
“We're always happy,” Gracie exclaimed, excited about her win.Like many area campgrounds winding down the summer season and rounding the bend into fall, Kozy Rest gave families one last shot at summer fun.Gracie and her family have visited the campground on holidays for the past seven years and make sure to join the train, fire truck and hay rides. This year, the family even signed up for the laser tag tournament.“Every year we come, there's something new, and that's very nice,” said Gracie's mom, Michele. The laser tag field, complete with pallets and old tires for both teams to hide behind, was heavily trafficked, with games throughout the weekend.“This is right up our alley,” said Dewey Stewart, of Franklin, as he watched his family play.
