PITTSBURGH — A woman sent to prison for abducting a newborn from a Pittsburgh hospital has died.

Breona Moore, 22, of East McKeesport died late last week at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn told a Pittsburgh newspaper she died of natural causes.

Moore was serving a 2 ½- to-five-year sentence at Muncy state prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping a 3-day-old boy from Magee-Women's Hospital in August 2012.

Investigators said she'd told friends for weeks she was pregnant.

After a five-hour manhunt, police found Moore holding the baby, who was not harmed, in a closet in an office building.

PITTSBURGH — A 22-year-old man charged in the fatal stabbing of a beloved Pittsburgh police dog is expected to stand trial this week.Jury selection was scheduled to begin today in John Rush's trial on felony abuse of a police animal, disarming a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault and other charges.Prosecutors say Rush stabbed 8-year-old police dog Rocco in January as police arrested him on warrants for probation violations and failing to register as a sex offender.Police say Rush stabbed Rocco in the back and wounded two officers before being arrested.Money from Rocco's memorial fund is being used for protective vests for Pittsburgh's other police dogs.The state stiffened the maximum penalty for abuse of a police animal to 10 years, three more years than Rush faces.

WEST CHESTER — The reward for information leading to a missing 21-year-old West Chester University student has reached $50,000.Shane Montgomery, a senior at the suburban school, was last seen leaving a Philadelphia bar in the early morning hours on Thanksgiving after a night out with friends.His mother, Karen Montgomery, announced the latest increase in the reward on Saturday.The Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI are investigating.

MCDONALD — Police near Pittsburgh are searching for a couple of Grinches they say stole a Salvation Army donation kettle.The red kettle and an unspecified amount of cash inside were taken around 8 p.m. Friday from a convenience store in McDonald, about 18 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.Police posted surveillance photos of the suspected couple on the department’s Facebook page.
