[naviga:h3]Saxonburg arts festival arrives[/naviga:h3]

The 33rd Saxonburg Festival of the Arts runs Saturday and Sunday and includes a photography contest, a fine arts exhibit, crafts, music and food.

The photography contest and the 33rd fine art show will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church basement, corner of Main and Rebecca streets.

This year Saxonburg Fine Art is honoring the memory of Edward O. Neubert by exhibiting his vintage wood inlay art, including “The Last Supper,” the largest of his paintings, as well as landscapes and birds.

Mark Anderson will be demonstrating his fine art techniques. This year’s featured artist is Elizabeth Korczynski from Zelienople.

[naviga:h3]Gemtones to play concert[/naviga:h3]

The Fabulous Gemtones will appear on Sept. 15 at Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave., Lyndora.

The Gemtones feature four singers performing R&B, soul, oldies, disco and uptown funk.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and entertainment at 8 p.m.

[naviga:h3]Music club has piano duets[/naviga:h3]

Opus I Music Society will offer “Donuts and Duets” at 9:30 a.m. Monday at LifePointe Alliance Church, Route 228, Mars.

A potluck brunch will be followed by news of coming programs and piano duets played by Margie Rinaman and Kathy Kemerer.

The music will include selections ranging from “The Pink Panther” to “Tea for Two.”

[naviga:h3]Play about dementia set[/naviga:h3]

“Absence, A Play About Dementia” will be staged Sept. 21, 22 and 23 at the Succop Theatre at Butler County Community College.

Presented by Newhaven Court at Clearview, the award-winning play by Peter Floyd follows the life of 74-year-old Helen Bastion, as she begins to suffer lapses of memory and words lose their meaning and reality fragments.

The play is directed by Larry Stock of BC3’s Succop Theater and includes a cast of experienced actors from the area.
