College student charged after weekend incident
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A Slippery Rock University student faces a hearing next month on charges that she kicked a trooper during a weekend disturbance at an apartment complex.
Jordyn E. Katic, 19, of Gibsonia is accused of felony and misdemeanor assault, resisting arrest and other charges. She is free on $7,500 bail.
State police said they were called around 2:10 a.m. Sunday for a fight at the Campus Side Apartments. They came upon Katic, who they say was on the sidewalk yelling. She lives at the complex.
Police believed she was intoxicated and they subsequently arrested her. But when they tried to take hold of her arm, police said, she pulled away and tried to run.
Troopers said they had to take her to the ground. She continued to struggle with police, according to charging documents, as they placed her in handcuffs and afterward, when they tried to put her in a cruiser.
“While attempting to restrain Katic in the patrol vehicle for transport,” documents said, “Katic did kick Trooper Francis Walters in the right hand and leg several times.”
Katic was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled Oct. 16 at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock. Online court records did not list an attorney, and Katic was unavailable for comment.
SRU spokesman Robb King said Tuesday that the university does not comment on ongoing police investigations. He said Katic is a sophomore biology major.
