After scramble to find supervisor, Donegal passes 2022 budget

With one supervisor physically present and one participating by phone, Donegal Township's supervisors voted to approve the 2022 budget at a meeting Monday night.

Supervisor Mike Haid presided over the meeting and supervisor Ryan Ritzert voted via phone. A 2.25-mill property tax and a fire tax of the same amount were approved unanimously. The proposed 2022 budget was also approved during the meeting.

Township secretary Leslie Stewart said the budget amount is roughly the same as last year's at $362,285.

“There's no tax increases this year,” Stewart said. “There's no changes to the budget items.”

Stewart also said there were no plans as of yet regarding the American Rescue Plan funds.

As far as big purchases are concerned, the township intends to purchase a John Deere tractor.

The fire tax funds go toward Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, and 2.25 mills has been the standard since the tax was implemented roughly five years ago, according to Stewart.

“It's too expensive to provide our own fire service if it came to that,” Stewart said.

The board of supervisors next meeting is at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
