Repeat DUI offender sentenced to prison

Aaron Banks

A Karns City man was sentenced to two prison sentences Wednesday for his third and fourth DUI, with one involving a two-car crash.

Aaron J. Banks, 34, of Karns City pleaded guilty in October to driving drunk on two separate occasions just weeks apart in May. Judge William Shaffer sentenced him to two jail sentences: one to two years in prison and one to five years. The two sentences will run simultaneously. He received 84 days credit for time already served on each case.

In the most recent DUI, Butler police said they found Banks apparently passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle on May 30. Banks was “slumped over the wheel,” according to police, who noticed a marijuana pipe in the center console. The pipe had what appeared to be burned marijuana inside of it.

Four weeks earlier, state police said Banks was driving on drugs when he caused a two-vehicle crash in Center Township.

Along with Bank's prison sentence, he must also pay $4,025 in fines and serve a total of 250 hours of community service. Banks made no statement at his sentencing.
