Man who ran from court enters plea

BUTLER TWP — The handcuffed man who gave a constable the slip last month and eluded police capture for two hours is a free man — legally, this time.

Bradley S. Cramer, 27, of Butler on Thursday pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, a third degree misdemeanor. In exchange for his plea, a more serious charge of escape was withdrawn.

District Judge Kevin O’Donnell ordered Cramer to pay a $300 fine and an additional $306 in court costs.

Butler Township police arrested Cramer May 24 after he took off running from the lobby of O’Donnell’s office at the Sunnview complex.

State constable Bob Geagan earlier in the day had picked him up on warrants for failing to pay fines in two summary cases — one for disorderly conduct and the other for criminal mischief, both in Butler Township, authorities said.

Cramer just before 10 a.m. bolted out three doors, while Geagan was talking to a court official, and headed toward the 911 center with his hands behind his back in cuffs.

Township and city police along with sheriff’s deputies and Geagan launched a manhunt, but it would be about noon before officers found him hiding at his grandmother’s house on nearby Center Avenue. By then he had managed to work his cuffed hands from his back to his front.

He was eventually arraigned on misdemeanor charges of escapee and theft, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

The theft charge, police noted in court papers, was for taking the handcuffs.

With his plea, the theft charge also was withdrawn. And with that case and the others resolved, court officials said, there was nothing to keep Cramer in prison any longer.
