State police investigate Tuesday after a pickup truck traveled off Whitestown Road, nearly went into Semiconon Run, and ended up against a hillside in Connoquenessing Township.

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A driver who sustained possible head and internal injuries Tuesday after his air bag did not deploy during an accident was initially transported by Life Flight, but weather conditions forced the helicopter to land.

State police report the man nearly crashed his Ford Ranger pickup truck into Semiconon Run off Whitestown Road shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday. No details about the man's identity or his condition were available as of Tuesday night.

Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company and the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District responded to the scene.

Rescue crews did not need to use mechanical assistance to remove the man from his truck, and EMS workers helped him out of the vehicle, according to police.

The man was initially transported from the scene by Butler Ambulance Service to an open field further east along Whitestown Road. According to county emergency dispatchers, the man was flown from there by Life Flight helicopter to the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport, where the helicopter landed due to poor weather conditions. From there, he was transported via another ambulance.

A passer-by reported the wreck around 1:20 p.m.

The truck struck a guardrail and passed through it to come to a rest on a hill above the creek.

Officials at the scene did not release any further information about the potential cause of the wreck.
