SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A 24-year-old man is accused of threatening his grandmother with a handgun and a hammer during an altercation Monday morning at their home.

State police arrested Jeffrey Richard Ford, but not before the victim, 67-year-old Bonnie Mae Ford, locked herself in the bedroom and called 911, according to court documents. No injuries were reported.

Ford was later arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

A reported domestic dispute involving a firearm about 7:50 a.m. sent troopers to the home on Orchard Park Lane, where they found the defendant outside. Police said Ford was unarmed and “cooperative.”

Police said he admitted that he had earlier threatened to hit his grandmother with a hammer but denied he had brandished a gun. He told troopers that there was a firearm in a living room drawer.

Police found Bonnie Ford in the house. She recounted that her grandson “had thrown her luggage around the living room and (waved) the firearm and threatened to shoot her,” a police affidavit said.

But that allegedly wasn’t the only threat. She said he told her that he would hit her in the head with the hammer.

Troopers seized the gun — a loaded revolver — from the drawer next to the sofa, documents said, where Ford told them they would find it.
