Butler Township man sentenced for Country Town store robbery
A recovering drug addict reportedly robbed a convenience store clerk with a knife during a period of relapse.
Mark A. Edwards, 26, of Butler Township will serve up to 6 years in prison for that decision.
Edwards, who pleaded guilty to robbing the Country Town store in Butler Township Jan. 11, was sentenced today by Butler County Judge Timothy McCune.
The judge issued Edwards a prison sentence of 36 to 72 months in jail, followed by two years probation.
However, the judge said if Edwards qualifies for and completes a state prison program aimed at recovery, he could be freed in as little as 27 months.
Edwards also must repay the Country Town store $741 in restitution.
His defense attorney, Kerry Starr, told the judge that her client was a recovering drug addict. He committed the robbery during a relapse and intends to take advantage of programs in the state prison.
