A second Butler man has been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine in a city apartment.

Thomas Lee Odom, 31, is accused of being one of the people cooking the drug in the Standard Avenue apartment.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office on Thursday charged Odom with eight felony counts and two misdemeanors.

According to the criminal complaint, multiple sources identified Odom as one of the cooks and the person who accompanied them to retail outlets to buy products containing pseudoephedrine, sulfuric acid, lithium batteries and drain cleaner containing sodium hydroxide.

One source told authorities there was an explosion in the apartment’s bathtub when Odom and others cooked the drug for the first time in September.

After Odom was arrested on Oct. 25, he told authorities his backpack contained products used to manufacture the drug.

According to the complaint, the items were what would be needed for the “one-pot” cooking process.

Processed as evidence were ammonium nitrate, sodium hydroxide, sodium chloride, sulfuric acid, petroleum distillates, lithium, one-pot cooking vessel with sludge, a gas generator, pliers, pipe cutters, tubing, modified caps with tubing, among other items.

Among the felony counts is risking a catastrophe.

According to the complaint, “The clandestine manufacturing of methamphetamine creates an environment that is highly caustic, extremely flammable/volatile and hazardous.”

The other charges include two felony counts of operating a methamphetamine lab and two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver.

Odom is jailed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of a $100,000 cash surety bond.

The state on Oct. 4 charged Brian Payment, 27, in connection with the case. Payment also faces multiple felony counts.
