Mary Jessica Terrell

Mary Jessica Terrell, 81, of Valencia passed away Friday at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

Born on Nov. 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and M. Elizabeth McMullen Gill.

She graduated from West Chester State Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and taught in Springfield, Montgomery County, and the Mars School District.

Mrs. Terrell was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, where she served as an elder, deacon and director of children's work, and was actively involved from 1961 until the time of her death.

She volunteered at the Lighthouse Foundation and served as coordinator for numerous programs.

While involved with Hosanna Industries, she was part of the long-range committee, organized and directed the client care program and, in recent years, was honored by having the Terrell Trade Center dedicated to her.

As a supporter of the South Butler Community Meals on Wheels, she and her husband delivered meals and assisted with fundraising. Additionally, Mary served on the board of directors of Hosanna, Lighthouse and the South Butler Community Meals on Wheels.

In 2001, Mary was one of three women named Samaritan of the Year in Butler County for her volunteer work.
