Butler seeks better communication with school board assoc.

The Butler Area School District board of directors is considering drafting a resolution voicing frustrations with the Pennsylvania School Board Association.

A committee will be formed and will have an open meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 10 at 112 Hollywood Drive in Butler.

Superintendent Brian White said every member of the board does not share the frustrations, but a resolution could get the attention of the association to better communicate with Butler.

“I think they want to see the advocacy look different, and they articulated that the issues that they focus on don't represent our issues,” White said. “They felt that because the western half of the state doesn't get the same attention as other parts of the state.”

White also said the school board does not have to be part of the association, but it does get some purchasing benefits included in the membership.

“If we purchase things out we get some cost savings,” he said.

The board could vote on a resolution following the Jan. 10 meeting of the newly formed committee.
