BC3 rolls in WPCC volleyball tourney

Four Butler County Community College players made the all-tournament team as the Pioneers won the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference volleyball tournament at the BC3 FieldHouse over the weekend.

Brittany Bianco, Autumn Rodgers, Mackenzie Craig and Emily Magusiak received all-tournament honors. The top-seeded Pioneers (17-5) defeated Pitt-Titusville 25-7, 25-14, 25-17 in the semifinals.

Bianco had 25 assists in that match while Craig had 10 kills, Rodgers five kills and six blocks, Magusiak five kills and 11 digs.

BC3 defeated CCBC 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 in the title match. Bianco had 35 assists, Magusiak 11 kills, Rodgers eight kills and three blocks, Craig seven kills and Haley Caldwell 17 digs.

BC3 will host the Region XX Championships Saturday and Sunday.

Gannon 3, Slippery Rock 0 — The Rock 9-14, 1-10) was swept 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 at Morrow Field House. Brooke Bostwick had seven kills and a block for SRU while Stephanie Jacobsen and Shayla Ray had six and five kills, respectively.

Haley Defibaugh had 13 assists and 10 digs, Courtney Oberlander 19 digs. The Rock hosts Cheyney on Friday.

Field Hockey

SRU (10-7, 5-4) was shut out 3-0 by No. 2 East Stroudsburg (13-3, 6-2). Kayla Ulrich had three shots on goal for SRU.

Nicole Bream made two saves while Maddie Murphy made six saves in goal in the loss.

Women’s Soccer

The Rock fell to No. 22 West Chester, 2-1, at Egli Field. SRU seniors Haley Burkholder, Tess Keeley, Maddy Smith and Maddy Tietski were honored before the game.

Skye Kramer scored her fifth goal of the year for SRU (9-5-2, 9-4-2) and her team had a 1-0 lead after the first half.

SRU concludes its regular season Saturday at Shippensburg.

Men’s Soccer

No. 12 West Chester defeated Slippery Rock 1-0. SRU seniors Kyle Boyer, Tyler McCarthy, Steven Rerick, Jonathan Sharp and Patrick Sullivan were honored before the game.

The Rock (4-9-3, 3-5-2) fell when the Golden Rams scored the game’s only goal after 86 minutes had been played. Sharp made five saves in gioal for SRU.

Women’s Tennis

Grove City secured its third Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship in four years and the 29th in program history Saturday.

The Wolverines tallied 56 points to beat out runner-up Thomas More, which had 37.
