Shawn Weller

, son of Kelly McCort of Mars, recently enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program.

Weller will report for basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

He is a 2001 graduate of Mars High School.

Air Force Senior Airman

Ronald Campbell Jr.

has been awarded the Knucklebuster Award for February and the Quality Assurance Award for March. He also was selected as Airman of the Quarter for the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, the Aircraft Maintenance Group and the Aircraft Maintenance Wing for the first quarter of 2004.

He serves with the 6th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla.

Campbell is the son of Ron and Karen Campbell of Bruin. He is a 1996 graduate of Karns City High School.

Army Staff Sgt.

Reuben Snyder

has returned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, after completing a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, with additional participation in Operation Northern Delay.

During Operation Northern Delay at Bashir Airfield, the brigade paratroopers established the northernmost coalition offensive boundary and created a stable logistical intersecting point to allow the introduction of equipment and troops into the theater. The operation was the largest airborne assault since World War II and forced the Iraqi army to maintain approximately six divisions in the area to protect their northern flank, providing strategic relief for the Coalition Forces advancing on Baghdad.

Snyder is an infantry squad leader with nine years of military service.

The 1994 graduate of Knoch High School is the son of Twila Snyder of Saxonburg.

Navy Fireman

Justin C. Tassey

, son of Susan and Edward Tassey of Butler, recently participated in Operation Vigilant Resolve, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

During the operation, Strike Fighter Squadron 131 and Carrier Air Wing Seven, launched F/A-18 Hornets from Tassey's ship and conducted a 20-mm strafing run against an enemy position and dropped two 500-pound laser-guided bombs on another enemy position in Fallujah, Iraq.

This was the first live ordnance dropped by CVW-7 aircraft since Washington deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tassey, a 2002 graduate of Butler High School, joined the Navy in July 2003.
