An Altoona woman, who was charged alongside her ex-husband and another person with two burglaries in 2015, was sentenced to state prison in Butler County Court on Thursday.

Michelle C. Book, 37, was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in a state correctional institution and 36 months of state probation following her release, by Judge William Shaffer.

Shaffer allowed Book to report to the prison on Sept. 7 for commitment to establish a new care provider for her children.

Book previously pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to burglary and criminal trespass in two cases. She was charged alongside her ex-husband Shawn M. Book, 40, and Toni M. Arnold, 42, after incidents on June 24, 2015, and July 3, 2015.

Book's attorney, William Caye II, said his client is a “recovering addict and a rehabilitating parent” who accepted responsibility for her role in the incidents, and cooperated with law enforcement by providing “substantial assistance” — detailed information and testimony regarding the incidents and others involved — in Butler and Lawrence counties.

He said Book has been sober for two years and recently won back custody of her 3-year-old twins in May, while also recently fighting and winning a battle against cancer.
