Police: High-speed chase leads to kidnapping charges

FORD CITY, Armstrong County — A high-speed car chase Sunday that briefly entered Butler County led to the arrest of a Venango County man on kidnapping charges.

Kirk Edward Heath of Cranberry, Venango County, faces 19 charges — including kidnapping, drug possession, fleeing police and reckless endangerment.

According to state police, Heath led authorities on a chase from East Deer in Allegheny County to Ford City in Armstrong County, exceeding speeds of 120 mph.

The chase started when Cpl. Jeremy Bowser attempted to pull over the 43-year-old because the left brake light on the vehicle Heath was driving was faulty, according to police reports. Bowser said Heath speeded off after the state trooper turned on his car's lights, allegedly driving recklessly along Route 28.

Bowser said the chase ended when Heath fled on foot and police found a woman “trembling in fear” also running away from the car.

The woman told police Heath prevented her from leaving the car, swatting her phone out of her hand and speeding up when she tried to flee.

Heath remains in Armstrong County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
