JEFFERSON TWP — A tree that came down across Rockdale Road Monday morning started a chain reaction that ultimately sent a vehicle barreling into a house.

Saxonburg Fire Chief Chris Ballina said the incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. Monday, when a vehicle traveling along the road swerved to avoid a stopped car and ended up crashing into the home at 122 Rockdale Road.

Ballina said the incident was caused by a tree which had fallen across the road, pulling power lines down with it and making the road impassable for the first driver, who had stopped his car in front of the blockage.

It wasn’t clear Tuesday how much damage the crash caused to the home, or what portion of the home was hit by the car. Ballina said the fire department used struts to ensure the structure did not collapse onto the vehicle. But based on reports from firefighters on the scene, Ballina said he believed the home was still livable following the crash.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was home at the time of the crash, and a phone number for the residence could not be located.
