PROSPECT — Five people are running for four available seats on borough council.

Incumbent Democrat William Marciniak and Republican Bob Boice are seeking re-election, while challengers Janet Boice, Nicholas Vaccarello and Todd Wilson, all Republicans, are also seeking seats on council.

Marciniak, a retiree, is council president and is the lone Democrat running. Marciniak said he would like to see the borough work on putting in a park on a plot of land it owns on Route 528.

“I'd like to keep the line held on taxes and sewage rates, and also I'd like to see us improve the quality of life in Prospect,” he said.

Bob Boice, a retired Armco Steel worker who has been on council for 16 years, said he would like to continue serving and “keeping it honest.”

Janet Boice, who is married to Bob, is running for the first time.

Nicholas Vaccarello, who recently retired from running an excavation and construction company, formerly served on council for 12 years.

He said he believes his knowledge and expertise in construction, storm-water runoff and sewage matters would be valuable to the borough, which has ongoing problems with its sewer system and stormwater flooding on borough residents' properties.

“You have to understand what the problem is and fix is. We've skirted the issues,” he said. “We cannot continue to put water down the streams and flood our neighbors.”
