Adams officials mull adding rifle ranges to zoning district
ADAMS TWP — Township officials will consider adding firing ranges to one zoning district.
Solicitor Michael Gallagher told the supervisors Monday night that he will draw up a zoning amendment to make rifle ranges a conditional use in the township's rural conservation zoning district.
He said the use was not included in the zoning ordinance, and there has been an inquiry by an individual who might be interested in developing a firing range in the township.
The proposed amendment would be considered by the township planning commission, which could then recommend the supervisors approve the use.
Township code enforcement officer Gary Peaco said a few firing ranges already exist in the RC district, which is the largest district in the township. The RC district is mainly in the northern part of the township.
The existing firing ranges were in operation before the township zoning ordinance was created.
Gallagher said any zoning ordinance would include acreage restrictions and other limitations.
