LIFE Butler County is expanding its facility on West Diamond Street.

The agency, which provides services to senior citizens across the county, is adding to its building that it once shared with Butler County Dialysis Center.

“It's going to provide a lot for us,” said Marla Frailey, director of LIFE Butler County. “It's going to provide additional space. Our day center (space) is going to be up.”

The project will cost $1 million. When finished, the building will be about 17,000 square feet.

LIFE means Living Independence for the Elderly. The agency provides care and services to seniors both in their homes and at the facility. Those services include medical care, meals, recreational programs, and transportation.

Construction has begun on the building, which is owned by Lutheran Senior Life. The exterior of the building remains intact, but the inside walls and other interior aspects are being demolished to fit the plan of LIFE Butler County. Workers also are cutting concrete pads to put in a bathroom.

Frailey expects the expansion to be done by either late winter or early spring.

The new day center will have at least 5,000 to 6,000 square feet, and will hold up to about 100 people, Frailey said. The current day center holds about 50 people.

The expansion also will allow for larger exercise rooms, additional personal care stations, more office space and a larger conference area.
