Pickup truck strikes bicycle; rider injured
A 59-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning when a pickup truck struck the bicycle she was riding on Route 19 at Zehner School Road in Jackson Township.
Authorities report Madeline Petrus, of Zelienople, was knocked onto the road in the crash about 8:20 a.m. She was not wearing a helmet, according to Jackson Township police. Harmony EMS took her to UPMC Passavant hospital in Cranberry Township.
Petrus was traveling south on her bicycle approaching the intersection when a Ford F-350 pickup, driven by Robert Burr, 34, of Harmony, which was stopped at a red light on Zehner School Road, made a right turn onto Route 19.
Police said the truck clipped the bike. Petrus told officers he did not see the woman. Police noted that the sun was bright and in the driver’s eyes.
Petrus was not injured. The bike sustained minor damage. No charges were filed in the accident.
