Police accuse woman of prescription fraud
BUTLER TWP — Two police departments have filed charges against a Chicago woman who allegedly tried to fill a fraudulent prescription at multiple area pharmacies.
State police filed charges Tuesday against Keeyonna R. Clark, 26, just two days after Butler Township Police filed their own charges involving similar alleged offenses.
“We've alerted other areas' police departments to see if they have similar crimes with her associated as a suspect,” said Butler Township Lt. Matt Pearson Thursday.
As of Thursday afternoon, Clark was being held in Butler County Prison with a combined bond of $95,000.
“She was found at a local hotel,” Pearson said.
State police said they believe Clark began renting the room Feb. 12.
According to charging documents, Butler Township investigated a report of a woman who approached a pharmacist at the CVS Pharmacy in Target, 200 Butler Commons, around 11 a.m. Saturday to fill two prescriptions written by an Ambridge, Pa., doctor. The documents said the pharmacist noted the first prescription for promethazine-codeine looked fake, and the second for a Ventolion inhaler looked more legitimate.“The (pharmacist) stated he then called the doctor's office and the doctor told him that they were not good prescriptions,” said the investigating township officer in the affidavit.According to the documents, the pharmacist identified the woman requesting the fake prescriptions as a Black woman wearing a blue overcoat, a description later used by police to identify Clark through stores' video surveillance.During the investigation, Butler Township police began working with state police who were investigating similar reports.Police said Clark tried to fill the prescription at multiple pharmacies, including Sam's Club, Giant Eagle, Walgreens, Walmart and Rite Aid. Through the video footage from these locations, they were able to tie Clark to the vehicle she used to get around.According to the documents, police found the same car parked at a local hotel, which was near some of the pharmacies. The documents said Clark was found at the hotel and arrested.Butler Township police charged Clark with six counts of misdemeanor forgery with an additional 12 related, lesser misdemeanor charges.State police charged Clark with two counts of misdemeanor forgery with four related, lesser misdemeanor charges.Clark has a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton for the state police's case, and she has another on March 18 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell for the Butler Township police's case.
