Drivers extracted from 2-vehicle crash on Rt. 8
Two people were transported by helicopter following a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon along Route 8 near the intersection with Church Road.
Both drivers were extracted from their vehicles and taken to UPMC Presbyterian, according to Middlesex Township Police Sgt. Randy Davison.
Both suffered “fairly serious injuries,” Davison said.
The vehicle traveling northbound on Route 8 appeared to hit the vehicle that was traveling southbound on Route 8, police said. It appeared the northbound driver moved first into a turning lane, but then proceeded into southbound traffic, prompting a head-on collision.
The department had received a reckless driving complaint prior to the crash. It's believed the driver that prompted the complaint may have experienced a medical condition.
Route 8 traffic was shut down in both directions while emergency crews responded to the scene, located near the Middlesex and Penn Township border.
