JEFFERSON TWP — A Knoch parent wants the online version of a health class changed or eliminated — or parents should be notified of its content.

Cil Love told South Butler County School Board Wednesday night that the content of a health class aimed at teens is different in the classroom version than it is online.

Love said the classroom version is sexual abstinence-based and focuses on sexual risk avoidance.

But the online version, Love said, mentions Planned Parenthood twice and talks about protected and unprotected sex 12 times instead of identifying sex as a risk factor for sexually transmitted diseases.

“I think we are misleading our children into thinking they can protect themselves,” Love told the school board.

Superintendent David Foley said a sentence or two would be added to the curriculum guides stating that the curriculum in the classroom and online versions are different and parents are welcome to see them.
