Sarver artist shows work at gallery
OIL CITY — Transit Fine Arts Gallery, 206 Seneca St., is hosting an exhibit of watercolor paintings by artist-of-the-month Kathryn Galey of Sarver during the month of September.
The artist began a fascination with nature at a young age. She began her artistic career at age 11 when she got her first two boxes of oil paints.
Through the years she became a self-taught artist, and in the early 1980s, she decided to try watercolors, which would later become her signature work.
Galey has taught workshops and classes throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Germany.
In 1993, she was awarded first place in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and her work was published in the Artist’s Magazine. Her work appears in collections across Europe, Greece, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica as well as the U.S.
She is a past president of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society where she also served as the vice president, secretary, exhibition chairman and editor of the newsletter.
Her BlueSky Studio is at her home in Sarver, and her Studio 24 is in the Transit Building in Oil City.
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is free. Call 814-677-3707.
