School teachers salaries released
Salaries for Pennsylvania public school teachers and administrators have been released online, but finding them takes a little effort.
The state Department of Education posted the financial data Wednesday on its School Performance Profile website.
Visitors to paschoolperformance.org also can see instructional costs, average per-pupil expenses and sources of funding for each district, but they have to know where to look for it.
To access the financial data, visitors must first use interactive state and county maps on the site to select a school district.
Once on a district’s page, visitors need to click the “View District Information” tab at the top of the page.
On the following page, visitors need to click the tab titled “View Fiscal Information” to get a pop-up window displaying financial data for the district.
Salaries for administrators in the district can be seen by clicking the link for School Personnel Salary Data, which is near the bottom of the right column in the pop-up window.
That link will download a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that contains salaries for about 190,000 teachers and administrators across the state.
Excel 2007 or a later version is required to view the entire document because earlier versions of the program have limits on the number of rows that can be displayed.
To narrow the list down to the specific school district, select the district in the “LEA” drop-down box in column K of the spreadsheet.
Visitors also can sort by county in the “LEACounty” drop-down box.
The spreadsheet offers salary information from 2013. It also lists teachers’ college degrees and years of experience.
State Rep. Jim Christiana of Beaver County worked with state officials to make the public numbers more accessible.
