High school, recreational sports OK'd

High school and recreational sports got the green light from Gov. Tom Wolf Wednesday.

Sort of.

Wolf issued preliminary guidance for high school and recreational sports teams to resume voluntary workouts and other in-person activities in the state’s yellow and green phases in the wake of a coronavirus pandemic that wiped out spring sports seasons and put athletic programs in limbo.

There is one big caveat for high schools to get started again, however.

An athletic health and safety plan must first be approved by each school board and posted to that school’s website before activities can begin.

“It’s not going to happen overnight,” said Butler athletic director Bill Mylan. “Fall sports are chomping at the bit to get started.”
