SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A three-term veteran of Slippery Rock School Board fell short in Tuesday's primary in Region 2, with voters sending two relative newcomers forward to the general election in November.

The region encompasses Portersville and Prospect boroughs, and Muddycreek and Franklin townships.

All of the candidates in the race were cross-filed, meaning their names appeared on both Republican and Democratic ballots. But 12-year school board veteran Greg Angerett came up short on both.

Candidates Vito Pilosi III, 39, of Evans City and Diane Double, 41, of Muddy Creek Township were the top vote-getters on both sides of the ticket in Tuesday's primary. They will move on to November's general election.

Pilosi was the top vote-getter for both parties, winning 109 votes in the Democratic primary and 301 votes in the Republican primary.

Double came in second with 92 votes in the Democratic primary and 253 votes in the Republican primary.

Angerett, who won 64 Democratic votes and 212 Republican votes, failed to win a spot on either side of the ballot in this November's general election.

Double, who has served on the board for the past eight months as the replacement for former board member Polly Shaw, said she was “excited” to have won a spot on the ballot this fall.

“A lot of hard work went into it. We had a long day today,” Double said. “I just want to keep trying to be a good liaison between the kids in the district and the taxpayers. I'm going to try to be the best voice for them both.”

For Pilosi, who has run for school board before and fallen short, Tuesday's primary victory was a vindication of years of hard work and perseverance.

“I'm glad at what we were able to achieve tonight,” Pilosi said. “I hope that we can get through the general election and start helping things out.”
