Sugarcreek Twp. woman, 26, killed in Route 268 crash

SUGARCREEK TWP, Armstrong County — A 26-year-old woman died this morning when the car she was driving crashed and rolled over on Route 268 about two miles east of the Butler County line, authorities said.

Jessie Lynn Kamerer of Sugarcreek Township was thrown out of her car that ended up in the middle of store parking lot shortly after 5:30 a.m.

State police believe Kamerer may have fallen asleep while driving home after finishing her work shift at a bottling plant in New Kensington, Westmoreland County.

She was about two miles from her home, which is just 100 yards from the Armstrong-Butler County line.

Armstrong County Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas pronounced her dead at the scene at 6:36 a.m. She died of severe head injuries.

Police said Kamerer was northbound on Route 268 about four miles north of Cowansville when her 1995 Ford Escort station wagon traveled off the road.

The car struck a culvert and rolled over twice, police said, throwing her out. The car ended up in the parking lot of the Hair Perfection salon.

A motorist came upon the wrecked car and called 911. Police were notified at 5:40 a.m.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Steighner Funeral Home in Chicora is handling the funeral arrangements.
