Field comes into focus

Spots still available for Eagle Amateur

SUMMIT TWP — The field for the 25th annual Butler Eagle County Amateur golf tournament has grown to 130.

The 18-hole stroke play event is set for Sunday at Hiland Golf Course. Tee times are 7:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

The morning times are filled, but there are still spots open in the afternoon session, said Eagle Amateur committee member Rob Voltz.

Golfers may still register at butlereagleamateur.com or by sending a text with their name, age and handicap to Voltz at 724-822-4189.

“We still have some openings and people can text me until Saturday night if they want to play,” Voltz said.

Both starting times are shotgun starts. The field is divided into four flights, along with a women's division and a seniors division (50 and over).

Defending champion Jeremy Enslen is in the field.

Enslen, a 1999 Butler graduate, won last year at Oakview Golf Club with a 3-under-par 67.

Enslen will try to become only the second back-to-back winner.

Sean Knapp, who is not in the field this year, is the other. He won consecutive titles in 2012 and 2013.

“Jeremy is in a good group (in the afternoon),” Voltz said. “There's some low handicaps in there.”

Other defending champions in the field are Voltz (2007, 2016), Bob McFeaters and Mike Marron (2014).

Three more women have joined the event, including Butler sophomore Paige Scott, who finished eighth at the WPIAL Class AAA championships last fall.

There are now five women in the event: Scott, Mara Shingleton, Chloe Paulisick, Fontaine McFeaters, Andrea Jones and Landis Ruth.
