After chase, police arrest sex offender

A convicted sex offender wanted for failing to notify authorities of his whereabouts was arrested this week but not without a struggle that left three Butler police officer and the department’s K-9 officer with minor injuries, authorities said.

State police had been looking for Larry N. Ingram, 25, of Butler since Dec. 19 when they got a felony arrest warrant for him after learning he had a new home.

As a Tier 3 high-risk sexual offender under Megan’s Law, Ingram is required to register his address, employment and other information, in person, quarterly with the state police. He also must immediately notify police when he moves.

Authorities said when he last registered he listed a Lyndora address.

He remained missing until about 8 p.m. Wednesday when a tipster told Butler police that Ingram was at his new home in the 500 block of Center Avenue, documents said.

Ingram took off running when officers showed up.

The officers and K-9 “Blade” followed him onto Standard Avenue where he holed up in an apartment that he had no connection with. Police got inside and arrested him.

Police noted that all three officers and the K-9 had minor injuries in the incident.

Ingram was arraigned Wednesday night on the state police felony charges of failing to register as a sex offender.

He was arraigned the following morning on the city police charges of trespass and attempting to avoid apprehension, both felonies, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
