A Butler man is accused of having sex with a then-15-year-old girl earlier this year in Center Township.

State police Thursday arrested Mitchell A. McKnight, 25, following an investigation that started with a ChildLine report Aug. 7.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned McKnight on felony charges of statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility and sexual abuse of a child.

He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing Oct. 20. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney, and he could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Police said they interviewed the alleged victim Aug. 20. She told investigators that she was “in a consensual relationship with the defendant,” according to charging documents.

The girl, who is 16, advised that she was 15 when she first had sex with him, police said.

A search of the teen's cellphone, documents said, turned up several “nude photos that McKnight had sent her.” The photos were sent by text message and Snapchat.

Additionally, police said, her phone had nude photos of herself that she allegedly had sent to the defendant.

During an Aug. 21 interview, McKnight allegedly admitted to being in a relationship with the girl, having sex with her when she was 15 years old, and sending her several naked photos of himself via text and Snapchat.

The alleged crimes, police said, occurred between March and Aug. 20.
