One person was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after being trapped in an SUV that crashed into a tractor-trailer on the ramp to Route 228 from Interstate 79 Friday morning in Cranberry Township.

State police and the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to the incident, which occurred just before 7 a.m.

The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle for about five or 10 minutes, according to Fire Chief Scott Garing. The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital by Cranberry EMS.

Traffic was shut down northbound on I-79 for about 45 minutes before reopening.
