John Boehm

John Boehm

John Robert Boehm was welcomed to his Heavenly home by his Lord on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, after comp-lications from heart surgery.

He was born on Aug. 11, 1945, in New Castle, and was a lifelong Slippery Rock resident until his daughter finally convinced him to move to Jenison, Mich., in 2020.

John was preceded in death by his parents John Boehm Jr. and Elizabeth Loudon Boehm; his sister, Rose Bowman; and an infant son, Robert Russell Boehm.

John will be lovingly missed by his wife of 56 years, Janet Young Boehm; his son and daughter-in-law, John Russell (J.R.) and Eva Boehm of White Bear Lake, Minn.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Boehm Glaab and Tony of Hudsonville, Mich.; two granddaughters, Emma and Abigail Boehm of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews by whom he was affectionately known as “Unkie.”

John graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1963.

He was a self-employed contractor, operating John R. Boehm Building and Remodeling in Slippery Rock, for 50 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family laughing, playing games and doing jigsaw puzzles. John also enjoyed God's creation and spending time outdoors fishing, canoeing, camping and bird watching.

John was many things to many people: a devoted follower of Christ; a dedicated husband; a fun, loving father and role model; a doting playful papa; a helpful neighbor; an Eagle Scout and scoutmaster of Troop 310; a speaker for PCAP; a cheerful elf for Goodfellas; a bell ringer for the Salvation Army; an involved member of the Slippery Rock Methodist and Zion Baptist churches as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, trustee and deacon; bus driver; and expert pancake flipper.

John Boehm was a builder in every sense of the word. He built and remodeled homes for a living. He built and cultivated relationships within the church and community, and he helped to build and shape the lives of his family in the image of Christ.

John will be sadly, but fondly, missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.

BOEHM — A memorial service for John Robert Boehm, who died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, will be held in the spring of 2022 in Slippery Rock.
