Jorden Beatty of Butler graduated cum laude from Indiana (Pa.) University with a bachelor's in journalism.While at IUP, Beatty was a distinguished member of the university newspaper, The Penn, where he served in positions including staff writer, news editor, photo editor and entertainment columnist.For two consecutive years, Beatty was recipient of the David J. Rovnan scholarship reserved for staff members and editors of The Penn.In 2009, Beatty worked for the primary publicist of professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Washington, D.C. He promoted the bout between Mayweather and Juan Marquez, and his work was published in USA Today and other major newspapers.A 2006 graduate of Butler High School, he is the son of Jody and Jane Beatty of Butler.———The following students received degrees from their respective colleges and universities:

She received a bachelor's in middle childhood education.On campus, Mangola was active in the women's softball team.A graduate of Seneca Valley High School, she is the daughter of Andrew and Constance Mangola.<B>———Erik Pavlina </B>of Saxonburg completed his doctorate in metallurgical and materials engineering May 27 at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.He received a master's in metallurgical and materials engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.He obtained bachelor's degrees in 2001 in electrical engineering and materials science engineering from Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y.Pavlina will work at Postech University in Pohang, South Korea, in September.A 1999 graduate of Knoch High School, he is the son of James and Sally Pavlina of Saxonburg.<B>———</B>
<B>Luke Renwick</B> of Butler graduated with distinction with a bachelor's in architectural engineering and a minor in architectural studies from Penn State University. He graduated from the Schreyer Honors College.He received second place for his fifth-year senior thesis project in the lighting design option of architectural engineering and the Peerless Lighting award for outstanding achievement in lighting design.He was a member of Phi Alpha Epsilon honors architectural engineering fraternity and was vice president of the Penn State chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society.He accepted a full-time position with the architectural and engineering firm SmithGroup as a lighting design specialist at its Detroit office.A 2005 graduate of Butler High School, he is the son of Jeff and Trish Renwick.<B>———</B><BR><BR><BR><BR>
<B>Kelli Hall </B>of West Sunbury graduated with a diploma in nursing from the Citizen's School of Nursing. She is employed by the Butler Health System.A 2004 gradate of Moniteau High School, she is the daughter of Keith and Karen Hall of West Sunbury and the fiancee of Ryan Michael of Butler.<B>———Ryan McKinnis</B> was awarded a doctorate in optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, Pa.The son of Richard and Kerry McKinnis of West Sunbury, McKinnis completed his undergraduate work at Grove City College, where he earned a bachelor's in molecular biology.McKinnis will practice at Ohio Eye Alliance in Alliance, Ohio. She also graduated from Clarion University with an associate in allied health.She accepted a registered nurse position with the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh.A 2004 graduate of Karns City High School, she is the daughter of Bob and Mary Hertweck of Mars.<B>———Scott Powell </B>of Grove City, formerly of Butler, graduated with a doctorate in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Anderson University in Anderson, Ind.He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his master's in business administration.Powell is employed as an assistant professor in the business department at Grove City College.A 1982 graduate of Butler High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon K. Powell.He and his wife, the former Christine Deahl of Butler, live in Grove City with their daughters Sydney and Janae.<B>———Danielle Smith</B> of Butler graduated with a bachelor's in communication studies from Grove City University.She is a 2006 graduate of Butler High School and graduated cum laude in 2008 from Butler County Community College with an associate in communication studies.She is employed by Shelor School of Dance.She is the daughter of James and Donna Smith of Butler.<B>———
David Smith</B> of Butler graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's in science and information technology from Franklin University. He was on the president's list and the dean's list every semester.He is employed by the Butler School District as an information technology support specialist.He graduated in 2004 from Butler High School and in 2007 from Butler County Community College with associate degrees in computer forensics and personal computer networking. He also was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.He is the son of James and Donna Smith of Butler.<B>———Anne Laux </B>of Freeport graduated from Penn State University with a doctorate. A 2001 graduate of Freeport High School, Laux also holds a bachelor's from Penn State. She will continue her training in a general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.<B>———Haley Spinneweber</B> of Butler graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's in nursing from Ohio State University.She was a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars, Buckeye Student Nurses and Nursing Student Ambassadors.A 2006 graduate of Butler High School, she is the daughter of David and Leslie Spinneweber.<B>———Heather Cypher</B> of Butler graduated with a bachelor's in elementary education and special education. While attending Butler County Community College, she received high honors and finished her studies at Slippery Rock University, graduating summa cum laude.She earned certifications in elementary and special education, as well as English as a second language and middle school English.Cypher accepted a position as a second grade teacher in the Moniteau School District, where she will begin in the fall.She is currently working toward a master's in reading from Slippery Rock University.A 2005 graduate of Butler High School, she is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Cypher of Butler.
