Pond seminar May 7

Do you have a pond or lake on your property? Thousands of private ponds and lakes in Pennsylvania are connected to surface and groundwater resources and require proper care and maintenance. Each year, the extension office receives a number of questions regarding the management of large ponds and private lakes.

Regardless of its origin or intended use, management of a pond or lake may present the landowner with complex decisions. To help landowners make effective decisions, Penn State Extension will offer a Pond Management Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on May 7 at the Westfield Presbyterian Church in New Castle.

Workshop topics include: “Aquatic Plant Identification and Management,” “Pond Fisheries,” “Water Quality,” “Pond Maintenance” and a visit to a local pond for hands-on information. Topics are specific to larger ponds, not ornamental water gardens.

Advance registration is requested. Cost per person is $15 and is due by April 28. Register online at http://guest.cvent.com/d/3dqbnv. If you do not have Internet access, call 877-489-1398, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To obtain a copy of the brochure, contact the Butler County Extension office at 724-287-4761.

This material is submitted by Donna Zang, extension director, and the staff of the Penn State Extension office at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center complex.
