GRADUATES

Cody Knight

Cody Knight of Myrtle Beach, S.C., recently received a master's degree in learning and teaching, summa cum laude, from Coastal Carolina University.

Knight is a 2008 graduate of Seneca Valley High School and a 2011 graduate of Indiana (Pa.) University.

He is a physical education teacher at Britton's Neck Elementary School in Gresham, S.C., and the son of Steve and April Knight of Cranberry Township.

Brandon Zarichnak of Butler graduated cum laude from Robert Morris University with a bachelor's degree in nursing.He was on the dean's list all four years and was the recipient of the Renaissance Award. The award honors experiential learning outside the classroom.He also was a member of the Global Society of International Study.Zarichnak graduated in 2009 from Slippery Rock High School and is the son of Paul and Darlene Zarichnak of Butler.———The following students received degrees from their respective colleges and universities:Butler: Chelsea M. Ashley Steighner of Butler graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a bachelor's degree in accounting.She was president of the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, historian and treasurer of the dance ensemble and participated in Ambassadors Stars for student tours and as an admissions representative.She is employed at Odyssey Software in Wexford.Steighner is a 2009 graduate of Butler High School and the daughter of Steve and Shelley Steighner of Butler.———<BR></BR><BR></BR><BR></BR>

Monica Glomb of Mars graduated with a master's degree in electronic media from Kutztown University.She earned her undergraduate degree from Kutztown in leisure and sports studies in 2011.She was a graduate assistant in structured sports at the student recreation center. She played four years with the women's softball team on a sports scholarship, was twice chosen as All-PSAC First Team and was chosen as Athlete of the Week.———<BR></BR><BR></BR><BR></BR>

Brandy Mechling of Wilmington, N.C., previously of Saxonburg, recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a doctorate in nursing philosophy. Mechling is the daughter of Marlene and James McCabe of Sarver.Mechling graduated from Knoch High School in 1994. She attained her bachelor's degree with a psychology minor from Indiana (Pa.) University in 1997 and her master's degree from Hampton University in Hampton, Va., in 2005.Mechling has practiced as a psychiatric mental health nurse since 1998. She is an assistant professor at University of North Carolina Wilmington, School of Nursing, and teaches psychiatric/mental health nursing.Her research and dissertation examined young adults who grew up with a mentally ill parent at home, the young adult's outcomes and factors that might have helped or hindered their own psychosocial well being during their upbringing.Mechling is grateful to Butler County Children and Youth Services for supporting her as an adolescent and in setting her academic career in motion.———
