Steelers lose Munchak

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak is accepting a similar position with the Denver Broncos. Munchak has family in the Denver area.
Offensive line coach going to Broncos

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A person with knowledge of the agreement says Mike Munchak, who had been a finalist for Denver's head coaching job, is making a lateral move from the Pittsburgh Steelers to serve as the Broncos' new offensive line coach.

The person also said the Broncos are allowing Gary Kubiak to interview elsewhere and have received permission to interview 49ers QBs coach Rich Scangarello for their offensive coordinator opening. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Monday because the team hasn't announced the moves yet.

Kubiak helped general manager John Elway hit the jackpot in the 2018 NFL draft while serving as his senior personnel adviser. He was expected to run Denver's offense for new head coach Vic Fangio in 2019, so the Broncos initially denied other teams' overtures to interview him.

The Broncos decided not to bring back the old schemes and staff that Kubiak had in mind, however, so they're letting him interview for OC vacancies in Jacksonville and Minnesota.

Munchak, a former head coach in Tennessee, was a finalist to replace Vance Joseph, who was fired as head coach after going 11-21. Now he'll get a chance to fix what has been Denver's weakest link throughout Elway's tenure, a leaky O-line.
