Rock baseball team loses 10-inning affair

Despite Logan Brown’s 3-for-5 day that included two runs scored and one RBI, the Slippery Rock University baseball team dropped a 9-8, 10-inning decision to host King University in Bristol, Tenn. on Sunday.

Alex Bell, Will Kengor and Jake Weibley each added a pair of hits to SRU’s attack, which helped The Rock build a 7-6 lead after seven innings and an 8-7 edge entering the bottom of the 10th.

Senior right-hander Anthony Naso shouldered the loss after allowing two earned runs in the final frame.

On Saturday, the teams split a doubleheader, with SRU losing 7-3 in Game 1 before claiming a 7-4 victory in the second game.

Kengor went 4-for-9 in the two contests with a pair of doubles, a run scored and three RBI.

Junior pitcher Garet Peterson earned his first win of 2014 in Game 2, striking out nine and walking two while giving up two runs on four hits in four innings of work.
