The community will have two chances this spring to learn how to prevent drug overdoses and how to administer naloxone to an overdose patient.

North Main Street Church of God will host an Overdose Prevention Training program from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at the church’s fellowship hall, 1201 N. Main St. Ext. in Center Township.

A second seminar, sponsored by the Butler County Drug and Alcohol Programs, is planned for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 at the Butler County Training Center, 227 W. Cunningham St. in Butler.

Participants will learn techniques to reduce the risk of overdose, how to identify symptoms of an overdose, what to do and what not to do if you are someone who overdoses and how to administer naloxone. Naloxone will be available to those register and are in need of a take-home supply.

Both programs are free.

Butler County has had 21 fatal drug overdose cases so far this year, according to the County Coroner’s office. Toxicology results for another 13 cases are still pending.
