Man held on $50,000 bond in child porn case
A Clearfield Township man accused of possessing and distributing child pornography was arraigned before District Judge Lewis Stoughton Tuesday morning.
Adam T. Groshong, 44, remains in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond. He is also banned from using the Internet.
His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 7.
State police report Groshong uploaded 175 images or videos of child pornography while connected to the Butler Area Public Library's Internet. The files were flagged and reported by Google, as Groshong was using a Google-made email service to move the files.
He faces felony charges for both disseminating and possessing child pornography, as well as criminal use of a communication facility. The latter charge related to using his cell phone to collect the images.
Police began tracking Groshong through a July 19 report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by way of Google.
The tech giant provided information on Groshong through the center's CyberTipline.
Police interviewed Groshong at an inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse facility earlier this month, according to a criminal complaint. Police report Groshong admitted during the interview to viewing, downloading and uploading child pornography.
