State police in Butler and Kittanning say they're looking for a man who impersonated a police officer in an attempt to get a woman to partially disrobe Wednesday morning, after he stopped her along Route 422 in Armstrong County.

Police say the woman was driving west on the road at about 9:40 a.m. when a dark blue Ford Crown Victoria that had been sitting along the road pulled out behind her vehicle and activated a small blue light bar on its top.

When the woman pulled over a white man wearing a dark blue police uniform and gun belt, with a shirt saying “security” approached her vehicle and threatened to give her a ticket unless she showed him her undergarments.

Police say the woman drove off after the inappropriate request and saw the man, who is described as about 5-feet-8-inches tall with dark hair, a goatee and sideburns and facial stubble, turn around and head east on Route 422.

State police are asking people to report any information on the man to troopers in Butler or Kittanning, and said people can identify authentic unmarked police vehicles in several ways. The make, model and color of unmarked police vehicles can vary between departments, but all cruisers use both red and blue strobe lights, and officers on patrol are always in full uniform and carrying official identification during traffic stops.

Trooper James Long in Butler said that police continue to search for the man, but need the public's help to have a real chance of finding him.

“Realistically it's going to have to be someone who gives us information to locate this person,” he said.
