A medical helicopter was called to a one-vehicle wreck this morning that left one person injured in Buffalo Township.

Firefighters said the Ford Escape was headed soouth on Route 228 when, for an unknown reason, the elderly man behind the wheel lost control and hit a tree in the front yard of a home in the 700 block of Ekastown Road.

Mike George, assistant chief of Sarver Volunteer Fire Department said the driver, whose name was not immediately known, had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters because of the damage the vehicle sustained. George said the man was conscious and talking after the wreck, but was life flighted to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash, which happened at about 7:15 a.m., kept the road partially closed until about 8:30 a.m.

Buffalo Township police are investigating.

Volunteer firefighters from Sarver and Buffalo Township in Butler County and Harrison Township in Allegheny County assisted police with traffic control and helped set up a landing zone for the helicopter in a field near the Sarver Post Office on Ekastown Road.
