ATM foils robbery attempt at NW Bank
BUTLER TWP — Several officers from multiple departments responded to an attempted robbery on Saturday morning at Northwest Savings Bank on Pittsburgh Road.
A statement from the Butler Township Police Department said surveillance video showed a white male driving a compact four-door sedan trying to break into the closed bank at 4 a.m. using hand tools.
The man was able to make a hole in the wall with the tools.
The security features surrounding the ATM where the would-be robber chose to make entry prevented him from getting inside the building, the statement said.
A number of officers in defensive positions with their guns drawn could be seen surrounding the bank at about 8:45 a.m. Other officers could be seen inside the building with flashlights in an apparent attempt to determine whether the robber was inside the building, according to a witness.
The police statement said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
