German-style market returns
Harmony's German-style Christmas market will return Nov. 13 and 14, to kick off the holiday season with a celebration of the borough's German roots.
The annual Weihnachtsmarkt will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 13 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14, and, as always, will feature specialty vendors with handmade wares for sale, along with German music and food, and, of course, Glühwein, a mulled wine.
In addition to the food, music and merchandise, horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered in the borough's National Historic Landmark district.
Gwen Lutz, event organizer and vice president of Harmony Museum, which supports the market, said the event is an opportunity for residents, visitors and vendors.
“Harmony's Christmas Market is a great event for holiday shopping, especially this year,” Lutz said. “Activities take place in outdoor tents, so it's easier to social distance. Most of our Christmas Market artisans are back this year, eager to display their wares after so many festival cancellations in 2020.”
Included among the goods available for purchase from Weihnachtsmarkt vendors are woodcrafts like wood carvings, jewelry, artwork, foodstuffs such as local cheese and jams, leather goods, soaps and more. Locally produced wine and whiskey will be available, too, and visitors have the opportunity to see Harmony Museum volunteers engage in quilting, spinning and weaving.
As is expected at this point, Glühwein — a traditional German mulled wine served warm — will be offered.
Harmony Museum will also provide live entertainment, with Karl Lukitsch and The Autobahn Band performing Saturday, and Alpen Schuhplattlers of Teutonia Mannerchor performing both Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets for the Weihnachtsmarkt are $7 for adults, $5 for Harmony Museum members and seniors, $3 for students and free for children younger than 6.
Parking will be free and available in marked commercial parking lots throughout the borough.
